SchrodingersDog's Sleep Log My little attempt at appearing batshit insane to everyone I know.

Day 44

This morning was quite good. I went to bed a little late, so I set my alarm back an equivalent amount. I woke up and felt great. I took my first nap at around 6, but I snoozed once and felt awful after waking. I actually felt ok before the snooze. I'm starting to see the effects of naps that are too long. 20 minutes is just about right for me, though I haven't tried even shorter times.

Day 43

Its been a little over a week since my last post. This week was better than the last. I had less problems with falling asleep on the couch and was better able to fall asleep during naps at work. I've been working really long hours at work, but it doesn't seem as bad as it usually does since I've actually maintained some free time due to my sleep schedule.

I'm thinking seriously about trying SPAMAYL or Uberman-SL....or SLUberman. Google translate tells me that "Without Schedule Superman" translates to "ohne zeitplan Uberman". Maybe someone fluent in German could come up with something better?

I'll probably wait until I'm fully adapted to Everyman 3 (so another month or two?) and when there's nothing going on at work or in my life. Yeah right...like that'll happen...

Day 35

The last few days haven't been so good. I overslept several times this weekend. I can't trust myself around that couch! I tell myself I'll just sit down for a few minutes and then BAM! I wake up and its 2 hours later. Hopefully this doesn't upset my tentative adaptation....

This morning was good though, so I am getting back on track. I went for a jog at 4:30 AM, which wasn't so good for my morning nap, but I think I'll sleep well in the afternoon.

Day 30

Slept well during my core last night and felt great this morning. I ignored the urge to sit on the couch and surf the internet, which always seems to lead to illegal napping. Instead I stayed busy cleaning, reading at the dining room table, guitaring etc. Started to get drowsy at about 5:30, so I took my morning nap a little early. This was good bc it also allowed me to get to work early, and hopefully to leave early today as well.

I found a pretty good place for naps in the warehouse at work. The office area extends into the warehouse a bit and has a roof which we use for storage. Conveniently, there is an open ac duct up there blasting onto a portion of it, so that might be a good spot for summer naps.

Day 27

Missed my 2pm nap yesterday due to a hot car and missed my evening nap due to sick girlfriend. I went to bed on time, but overslept till 6am. First big oversleep in a while. I remember waking up and thinking "Ill just lay back down for a minute and then get up". Before I knew it it was 4 am. Then I figured I should comfort my sick girlfriend and rationalized staying in bed till 6. Oh well. Kinda groggy today, but doing ok.

We're having some near 90 degree days in Texas, which is making my car a little difficult to sleep in unless I get to work early enough to get a prized shady spot. I could turn on my a/c but id rather not run my car while sleeping. I may ask the boss if I can put a couch in the spare room at work. It wouldn't look TOO unprofessional, and certainly a lot less weird than seeing a dude sleeping on a camping sleeping pad.

I just found out how to post these things to the front page. HAH! Now you're inundated with dozens of blog entries. Actually I only posted the first one and this one to the front page so far. You can check the archives for all of the others if you care to.

Day 26

The adaptation continues! In general, I am getting more used to the schedule. I still don't feel at 100% capability, but I feel that my general state of mental clarity is getting better.

This weekend I drove to Dallas to see my baby nephew for his birthday party. I missed a nap as a result, but took my evening nap early while my gf drove. Other than that, I pretty much stuck to the schedule.

I'm still finding it difficult to consistently focus in the mornings. One problem I think is that I've been trying to keep the windows open to let some nice cool night breezes in, but then its too cold for me when I wake up. I really need to wear warmer clothes in the early mornings. Maybe I'll be less inspired to sleep and more inspired to do stuff outside...

Day 22

Yesterday was pretty uneventful, though I took a little unscheduled nap around 4am that turned into several unscheduled naps. Damn couch looking so comfortable. Other than that, the day was successful from a sleep perspective. This morning I felt pretty good. In the top third to top quarter amongst my early mornings so far. I took the dogs for a long walk around 4am which they very much appreciated. I was able to do some reading, though I did get pretty drowsy in the process.

My 2:00 nap (remember I shifted my noon nap to ~2) was ok, but its starting to get hot in Texas so my car was a little warm. I wasted a fair bit of time trying to get the temperature just right. I eventually switched to the passenger seat and rolled the windows down a bit to allow air flow. I'll most certainly need a better nap location for the 100 degree + days come july...

Day 20

Almost to the 3 week mark. I'm doing pretty well so far. I feel quite functional during the day, even if I miss a nap (though I do get a bit drug out from that). I have overslept, some due to mysterious turning off/ turning down of alarm (I blame saboteurs), some due to irrational, sleep-deprived thought processes. On the whole, though, the mornings are getting easier to handle.

This weekend I woke up on time both mornings and felt great, but then thought how much greater it would be to curl up in bed for a while with my girlfriend, so I took my morning nap early and ended up making it extra long. Afternoon naps were largely successful, but I missed an evening nap or two.

Felt good this morning and was actually pretty productive. Morning nap was fine, but I hit snooze and then felt groggier than when I first woke up....cant do that.

Almost afternoon nap time. I've decided to shift my afternoon naps to around 2-3 since thats when my body currently seems to want to nap naturally. This leaves a longer gap btw the morning and afternoon naps and a pretty short one btw afternoon and evening.

Day 16

I woke up at 12:30 or so this morning and for some reason thought it was time to get up. I went downstairs and sat at the kitchen table for 10 minutes or so, extremely groggy and trying to stay awake before I realized my mistake! Had a beer last night which I hope was not the cause of me being thrown off this morning because if beer upsets me that badly, I may have to abandon polysleep. I went back to bed and got up at my normal hour feeling decent. Took my 7:00 nap at 6:00 so I could cuddle with my gf before she left for her trip.

Lunch nap was a no-go.

Day 14

I guess this makes two weeks since I started Everyman 3. I didn't end up falling asleep at all during my lunch and evening naps yesterday, but I felt fine anyway. This morning I felt pretty good! I was pretty energetic the whole time, but still in no state to do work requiring mental focus. I was able to get a lot of stuff done in that state though.

Morning nap went ok. Slept for a bit, woke up midway through, went back to sleep before waking up groggy as hell. Maybe I set my nap timer too long?

I'm going to try an experiment: I have read that body temperature is an analogue to the circadian clock. I have a digital oral thermometer that I will use every hour to measure my temperature to try to map my circadian cycle. I'll link to the Google doc once it is more fleshed out.
